Under the guidance of the forever supportive Prof. (Dr.) Rashmi Nagpal, Additional Director,
Delhi Metropolitan Education, a 1-day Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights is being
organized on 6 th April 2023.
Intellectual property rights (IPR) are ideas, innovations, and creative expressions on which the
status of the property is conferred. They are a type of legal protection for creations of the mind,
such as inventions, literary and artistic works, symbols, and designs.The purpose of these rights
is to encourage creativity and innovation by giving creators the exclusive right to use and benefit
from their work and to profit commercially from them.Despite the fact that India has joined the global patent system, students passing out even from the
premieracademic institutions continue to lack practical knowledge and experience in the field of
intellectual property rights. This necessitates maintaining a proper balance and fine-tuning of
academic brilliance with academic integrity, as well as the protection and utilization of
intellectual property rights, which is becoming increasingly important for colleges and
universities.
The one day workshop will include a session by a guest speaker having academic expertise in
the domain of IPR and a separate session from an expert from the industry in the form of a
workshop to bring a practical perspective to the topics covered in the first session such as the
mechanism of filing for IP protection, with special focus on patent filing. It shall be followed by
a small fun exercise consisting of a quiz for the students to gauge the understanding achieved by
them.
